A matching multi-layer production cel and background setup from the Marvel Studios animated series "X-Men" (1992-1997). Featuring a great shot of Black Tom Cassidy stunned at the appearance of Erik the Red's ship, the hand-painted cel and background were created at the studio and used during the animation process. Both pieces create an actual frame of animation that was photographed and appears in the season three episode "The Phoenix Saga, Part III: The Cry of the Banshee," which aired on September 7, 1994. Measuring 10"x14" overall, with the character image measuring 9"x11" on a 10.5"x12.5" cel, the background and cel are in very good condition. The cel displays minor scratches, surface wear, line fade, and paper transfer on the back of the paint from studio storage. The background shows light edge and corner wear and masking tape around the bottom right corner. There is an additional cel layer with the underside of Erik the Red's ship. This layer has matching episode and scene numbers with the background and Black Tom cel, but it appears to have been cut from the scene due to layout continuity.
